New research has shown that only one crime per year will be solved with the help of computer surveillance. Since the release of this information the public are in uproar over the excessive use of surveillance equipment in and around almost every city.

A local Chief Detective said officers should do more to make use of evidence captured by the cameras which are practically on almost every street corner around the country. Video surveillance and does not go down to well with the public of England and this new statistic really does emphasise the lack of necessity for these tools. Why would we require CCTV if there is clearly no need for them – Where is the logic in computer surveillance? The use of CCTV is quickly being challenged as these statistics have just been released. There is a massive dissapointment in these CCTV devices. In my opinion it is only a matter of time before they have mobile phone tracking hooked up on all of us! OK – That may be a little paranoid but we are living in the big brother society.

Recent research has indicated that computer video surveillance has been the most useful in preventing vehicle thefts and vandalism in car parks. To help out with this problem people have been investing money into vehicle tracking devices which radically increases the chance of getting your car if it has been stolen. It is somewhat proven that video surveillance technology is not all that useful and it creates a huge intrusion on everyday life. So what is the point? Why must we invest ridiculous amounts of money into this. So, what can we do? Is it worth keeping hold of these cameras in our streets? Should we get rid of them all together? You would hope that something is being done to rectify this problem. I don’t think anyone was expecting that these statistics would be so low. Let’s see what happens..

MI6 rushed into an investigation last night after it was reported that valuable and secret information was leaked on the popular social media network, Facebook.

Millions of people in the ‘London Network’ let alone millions of others from around the world could have gained access to compromising photographs of Sir John Sawers and his family on the social media networking site. Sir John Sawers wife disclosed information on where the couple work and live and pictures of a recent family holiday.

Sir John Sawers is set to take over all intelligence operations in November but this is not a good start to get that job secured. This tiny little mistake from his wife has been blown slightly out of proportion however you have to ask yourself that if this was to repeat itself and something more sensitive was released what could the consequences be. That is not to say that the family was placed under computer surveillance or vehicle tracking but it just means that they understand the basic of what they can and can’t do. Spy gadgets aside it is important to understand the threat with such powerful social media website and it is important to recognise their capability to reach so many people so fast. This what was obviously so worrying.

Thankfully, the information was not displayed for very long at all but there is no way of finding out who may of seen it.

Question is how can you get around this issue? Well in order for only your close friends to see your profile content you need to edit the privacy settings from within your own account otherwise anyone can see the vital information that you are displaying on your profile.
Question is, do we really want someone who is going to make these kind of blunders in charge of our foreign affairs?
